NYFW Part 2: Official Interviews + Countown to Fitting Day

Friday was wild, and I’m still pinching myself. We started the day with a smoothie and coffee from Gregory’s, ready for the big day ahead. We hopped on the subway to the Flying Solo store on Broome Street for my interview at 2 pm. To be honest, I was pretty nervous, but as soon as we walked in, it all felt more relaxed. We met Veronica, the designer from Borboleta Bags, and her sister (who was amazing at content creation!), plus Esther, a fellow jewelry designer. These ladies quickly became my friends and support system for the rest of the week.

Downstairs, it was time for my interview. I saw a small camera and a cell phone, and I had a bit of a “whoa, this is real” moment. Elizabeth and her team were great, and Tayler was capturing all the behind-the-scenes magic. I stumbled a little in the beginning, but overall, I was happy with what I said. Elizabeth gave me awesome feedback on my answers, my collection strategy, and advice for other designers. It was a really helpful experience, and it made me feel so much more supported.

Then came a major highlight: My brother Jamie and future sister in law Sydney arrived in New York!! I can’t even describe how emotional and surreal this moment was. It felt like everything was coming together. We walked around the city, grabbed some pastrami sandwiches and potato salad at Katz and then stopped at El Churro for coffee. It was perfect.

Later, we headed out to the Comedy Cellar for some laughs. We had a bit of a rush adventure on the subway to get Tayler’s ID, and honestly, it felt so New York. We made it just in time and were the last group of four to get in. It was an amazing show, with tons of talented comedians including Keith Robinson. So funny, and such a great vibe!

After the comedy show, we made our way to the Flying Solo kick-off party. We passed a massive line with our badges (VIP vibes!), and inside, it was like an industry dream. The red carpet was lined with cameras, and I even got to meet some of the Flying Solo staff in person. The party was definitely cool, but we didn’t stay long, just enough to soak it all in.

On our way back, we grabbed some street food, and I had the most amazing falafel gyro. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable day.

Next up: Saturday—Fitting Day and all the magic that unfolded. Stay tuned for Part Three 💫
